    The responses of international practitioners have highlighted some recurrent debates in the field, notably:

    • cultural values underpinning programmes
    • acceleration and enrichment
    • integration versus separation of provision
    • constraints faced by educators and practical solutions
    • links between identification, provision and success.

    Improving school attendance by fostering a sense of community belonging

    Since 2010, school absence rates in England have gradually increased, and were undoubtedly exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite a small decrease in persistent absences from 2022 to 2023, attendance rates have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. In this article, we explore the causes of persistent school absences, and identify promising interventions to ensure more pupils in England consistently attend school.

    UK Special Envoy on Gender and Equality visits our Building Learning Foundations girls’ club in Rwanda

    We were delighted to host the UK’s Special Envoy on Gender and Equality, Alicia Herbert OBE, as part of her visit to Rwanda to attend the Rwandan government-led Women Deliver summit. On the second day of her visit, Ms Herbert visited our Building Learning Foundations (BLF) Programme to observe a girls' club activity at GS Mburabuturo, a government school located in Kigali.
