    Overview

    Our Early Grade Reading and Mathematics programme (EGRAM) in Sierra Leone aims to develop the capacity of teachers to improve reading and mathematics skills among children in primary Grades 1-3. 

    In collaboration with UNICEF, we provide community-based support to teachers and learning materials to early-grade learners, all with a view to improving their reading and numeracy skills. The programme also strengthens pre-service teacher education by building the capacity of teacher training institutions in line with global best practices.  

    By the end of 2023, the programme’s reach had exceeded its targets, training 220 professional development facilitators, who have cascaded the programme to over 5,000 teachers in almost 1,400 schools across Sierra Leone.
