edt builds on success of TEACH programme through new education initiatives in Zimbabwe

The programmes, Education System Strengthening (ESS) (July 2026-March 2027) and Leadership for Inclusive Education: Building a Gender-Transformative Leadership Pipeline in Zimbabwe (May 2026-April 2027), represent a significant investment in improving learning outcomes, strengthening leadership, and advancing education system performance in the country.  

The ESS programme will address foundational learning challenges by strengthening school inspection systems and supporting the rollout of Zimbabwe’s National Reading Strategy. We are also assisting Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) in digitising data collection, storage, and visualisation processes. This will strengthen MoPSE’s capacity for planning, resource allocation, and reform monitoring.

The ESS programme also aligns with Zimbabwe’s 2026-2030 Education Sector Strategic Priorities, particularly on strengthening the quality of assessment and improving the standard of teaching and learning in the classroom.

Deepening this impact, we are also delighted to launch Leadership for Inclusive Education: Building a Gender-Transformative Leadership Pipeline in Zimbabwe, spearheaded by MoPSE and funded by Echidna Giving. The project seeks to build a new generation of women education leaders through skills development, mentorship, peer networks, and a gender-transformative leadership toolkit aligned to MoPSE’s Safeguarding, Gender Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Strategy. Developed in response to the Women in School Leadership research study conducted by MoPSE and edt through TEACH, the initiative will support 30 aspiring leaders, establish communities of practice, and promote inclusive leadership in schools.
