Helping refugees in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to find a job

Free one-to-one support

Overview

Supporting refugees into employment in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Funded by the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund, this programme is designed to support refugees who have been granted the right to live and work in the UK as they take their next steps towards employment and independence.

Delivered across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly through their People Hub, the programme offers personalised, one-to-one support from dedicated key workers. These appointments provide a safe and structured space for individuals to begin adapting to the UK’s working culture and expectations.

The programme recognises that moving into work in a new country involves more than just applying for jobs - it’s about building the skills, confidence and understanding needed to navigate a very different employment landscape. Participants are supported to identify their transferable skills, develop their digital abilities, and learn how to job search effectively in the UK context. Where digital exclusion is a barrier, support is available to help individuals get online and build confidence with digital tools.

Our impact in 2025

In 2025 we worked with 114 participants, representing countries including Ukraine, Afghanistan,  Bangladesh, Hungary, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sudan, and Turkey. Participants from Ukraine and Afghanistan were also able to have appointments in their first language, ensuring accessible and tailored support.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive with 100% saying that they were satisfied with the quality of support received, satisfied with their key worker, and that they would recommend the service to friends and family.

“I received a big support from Jo [Senior Refugee Key Worker], the first person in England who really helped me to develop in my job. She helped me to find an adult education course and I now study and can improve my skills [as] a massage therapist. And she tried to help me [to] after that, open my own business... I dream about my spa salon, and I have friends with whom I study now, and probably we can do it together.”
